Why?
I still remember.
I was so scared,
I wept as I held onto you,
clutching the only remainder of what once was,
what could have been.
You held me close,
whispering with your tongue of honey
that I shouldn't worry,
that we'd be alright.
You knew as well as I
what was coming.
No matter how long it would take,
It would come,
And we would become lost in it.
Lost to the world,
Lost to each other,
And lost to ourselves.
Still, You held me as I wept,
Telling me that we'd be fine,
That things would always be this way.
You knew they wouldn't be.
I still remember.
